Cookie policy
The cookies and similar technologies we use on our website and client portal, why we use them, and the choices you have.

What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. They let the site remember something from one page or one visit to the next, such as the fact that you are signed in. Similar technologies do the same job in other ways, for example a tiny image in an email that records whether the email was opened. This policy uses "cookies" for all of them.
Where this policy applies
This policy covers the Emermark website at emermark.com and the Emermark client portal at portal.emermark.com. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information more generally.
Cookie and technology categories
- Strictly necessary. Needed for something you asked for, such as signing in. They cannot be switched off, and the law does not ask for your consent to them.
- Analytics. Help us understand how the website is used, so we can improve it.
- Advertising. Let us show Emermark adverts to people who have visited our website, and measure how those adverts perform.
- Error reporting. Helps us find and fix technical problems with Honeybadger. This uses similar technologies rather than a tracking cookie.
Cookies on our website
The website uses one essential cookie to remember your cookie preferences. It has no sign-in, and its contact forms work without cookies.
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
emermark_consent | Remembers whether you accepted, declined, or selected individual optional cookie categories. This essential cookie is limited to this website. | 180 days, unless you delete it sooner. |
Optional analytics, advertising, and error reporting are off until you accept them. You can accept or decline all optional categories, or choose each category separately. We ask again after 180 days, or if you clear the preference cookie.
Analytics
With your analytics consent, we load Google Tag Manager to deliver Google Analytics. Google Analytics helps us see which pages are visited, how people reach the website, and approximate location based on IP address. Google receives usage and device information when the analytics tag runs. We use its reports to understand site traffic, not to identify you by name. Tag Manager alone does not collect analytics until a Google Analytics tag is configured in the container.
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Tells one visitor from another. | Up to 2 years. |
_ga_ | Keeps the pages of one visit together. The full name ends in an ID. | Up to 2 years. |
Advertising
When Google's advertising tools are configured and you allow advertising, they can show relevant Emermark adverts and help measure how our marketing performs. Advertising consent is separate from analytics consent.
To do this Google sets its own advertising cookies, from domains such as google.com and doubleclick.net. If you have allowed it in your Google account, Google may combine what it learns with other information it holds about you. If we add other advertising partners, such as a social network, we will list them here.
Cookies in the client portal
The portal uses strictly necessary cookies only. They exist to sign you in and keep your account secure, and the portal cannot work without them. It sets no analytics or advertising cookies.
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
__Host-emermark.session | Keeps you signed in as you move between pages. | Up to 8 hours without activity, and never more than 7 days. |
__Host-emermark.2fa | Holds your place between entering your password and entering your second sign-in code. | Only while you finish signing in. |
__Host-emermark.2fa-remember | Set only if you ask the portal to remember your device, so you are not asked for a code each time. | Until it expires, or until you tell the portal to forget the device in your account settings. |
.AspNetCore.Antiforgery | Protects the forms you submit from being forged by another website. The full name ends in a random code. | Until you close your browser. |
Other technologies
- Error reporting. If you allow this category, Honeybadger receives technical error reports, including the page URL, browser information, and error details. It is not loaded if you decline error reporting.
- Email. Emails we send may include a small tracking image and tracked links, which tell us whether an email was opened and which links were used. Setting your email app not to load remote images limits this.
- Fonts. The website loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. This does not set a cookie, but your browser contacts Google to fetch the font files, so Google sees your IP address.
Your choices
Use Cookie settings in the footer to change or withdraw your consent at any time. Declining optional cookies does not prevent you using the site. The footer also has a Do not sell or share my personal information control, which switches advertising off. We honor your browser's Global Privacy Control signal by keeping advertising off.
- Your browser. Every browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. If you block all cookies you will not be able to sign in to the client portal.
- Google Analytics. Google offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics from recording your visits to any website.
- Advertising. You can turn off personalised adverts in Google's ad settings, and opt out of many advertising companies at once at aboutads.info.
- Consent. You can withdraw it at any time in Cookie settings, or by emailing [email protected]. When you switch a category off, we stop its scripts and remove its accessible first-party Google cookies. Your browser settings can remove third-party cookies.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when the cookies we use change, and change the date at the top.
